Bird's nest for children: from what age, and how to give it

By the Nestlab teamPublished Updated

The age and serving size for a children's bird's nest product are usually printed on that product's label, so start there. RealChew, Nestlab's bird's nest gummy, is formulated for children aged 3 and up, with a suggested serving of 1 to 2 gummies a day. Supervise children while they eat, and if your child has a health condition or is taking medication, talk to a doctor first.

From what age?

The suggested age and serving size can differ from product to product. Treat the information on the pack as your guide, rather than what other people do or advice with no clear source.

RealChew is made for children aged 3 and up. If your child has not reached that age yet, wait until they reach the age stated on the label. Each RealChew gummy contains about 30% edible bird's nest, with no added sugar (0 g), sweetened with stevia, BPOM registered and Halal certified.

How to give it

  • Follow the serving size on the label. For RealChew, 1 to 2 gummies a day is enough.
  • Supervise children while they eat. Get them used to sitting down and chewing slowly, not eating while running around or playing.
  • Keep the pack out of easy reach of children, following the storage instructions on the pack, so that gummies are not eaten beyond the serving size.
  • If your child has a food allergy, a health condition or is taking medication, talk to a doctor first.

What to check on the label

Processed food labels in Indonesia are regulated by BPOM and must include, among other things, the ingredient list, the expiry information and the registration number. If a product contains an ingredient classed as an allergen, such as milk, egg, peanut, soy or wheat, that ingredient must be printed in bold in the ingredient list, together with an allergen statement.

The Nutrition Information table also shows the serving size, meaning the amount reasonably eaten in one sitting, and the number of servings per pack. The registration number on the label can be checked on BPOM's official Cek Produk BPOM website.
